The series focuses on Light Yagami, a student who finds a supernatural notebook called "Death Note", which is capable of killing people if the names are written on it and if the wearer mentally visualizes the face of the person he wants to kill. Light tries to eliminate all criminals and create a world where there is no evil, but his plans are thwarted by L, a famous private detective, thus creating a career among ideals other than justice.

The most important characters are:

Light Yagami

Light Yagami also known as Kira is the main protagonist of the series. He is the first son of Soichiro and Sachiko Yagami, he is also the elder brother of Sayu Yagami. Light finds the Death Note and uses it to kill the criminals who mainly appeared in the news, then started killing criminals. He then became known in Japan as Kira (based on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word Killer, "assassin"). He joined the police to approach his enemy L and take him down.
Ryuk

Ryuk is a shinigami who indirectly delivers a Death Note to Light Yagami. Being bored in the Shinigami World, he manages to steal a second Death Note and drops it to the Human World for someone to find, all with the aim of finding entertainment, which is non-existent for him in his world. That Death Note was picked up by Light, who used it to try to create a new world, free from criminals and evil people.

He’s a famous private detective whose true identity no one knew, except for his assistant, Watari. He is known worldwide for deciphering complicated cases, as he is an extremely intelligent person.
